One fashion trend that we have not yet posted about, and that many view as rather tricky is the art of wearing denim on denim. The style has often been referred to as the Canadian Tuxedo, partially because of the fashion train wrecks notorious in the 90s. If you are unfamiliar with any of them, a look at Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears’ matching Canadian Tuxedos at the 2001 American Music Awards will conjure up a flashback of unwanted memories. However, while it may be difficult to pull the style off, when done properly, the final look can come off as undeniably cool.

One of the keys to making a denim-on-denim outfit a success is to avoid wearing the same washes or fabric weights. In A’s case, she opted for a darker skinny jean and paired it with a top that is lighter in both color and weight. To break off some of the denim, she incorporated a gray leather jacket and added silver accents with her necklace and sneakers. For an added touch of femininity and originality, she incorporated a beret-style gray hat, ultimately proving that denim on denim can indeed be very fashion-forward.

Es un estilo difícil de llevar y que nos trae recuerdos (recuerdos no demasiado agradables por cierto) del llamado “esmoquin canadiense” que hizo furor en los 90 y que no es nada favorecedor. Sin embargo, bien llevado puede resultar en combinaciones de lo más “cool”.

Una de las claves para conseguir un buen look con varias prendas vaqueras es evitar utilizar el mismo tono o el mismo espesor de tela. En el caso de A por ejemplo, la blusa es más clara y más ligera que los pantalones, lo que evita el efecto sobrecargado. Además, para contrastar incorporó al look una chaqueta de cuero y toques plateados en la joyería y las zapatillas. Y para aportar feminidad el toque final fue un gorro tipo beret en gris.
